Substation laser bird repeller installation, power safety guards in remote areas

Substations often face a special and interesting "threat" - a challenger from the sky, namely birds of all kinds. You may be wondering: what do these light-flying birds have to do with a huge substation? In fact, the connection between them is far more complex and serious than we think.

Why do birds choose to nest or frequent substations. On the one hand, substations are usually built in open areas far away from residential areas, which provides a more ideal habitat for birds; on the other hand, the structural features of substations, such as high-voltage wires and pylons, provide convenient pivot points for birds to build their nests. Moreover, the green belts around the substations attract a lot of insects, which in turn attract birds that feed on these insects.

The problem, however, is that bird activity can negatively impact the normal operation of a substation. The most immediate problem is fecal contamination. Yes, you heard that right - bird feces. When birds stay or nest on equipment in a substation, their droppings may contaminate the equipment, which not only affects the aesthetics, but more importantly, may cause the insulation of the equipment to deteriorate and increase the risk of short circuits. In addition, birds' nesting materials may block vents or other critical parts of the substation, affecting the normal operation of the substation equipment.

Worse still, large birds such as eagles may hit power lines or transformers when feeding, causing damage to equipment and even electrocution accidents. This not only harms the birds themselves, but also poses a huge threat to the safe operation of the substation. In the face of these potential risks posed by birds, substations have to take a series of preventive and countermeasures. For example, installing bird-proof spikes or bird-proof nets to prevent birds from staying or nesting in critical areas. At the same time, regular inspections are carried out to clean up bird nests and droppings in a timely manner to keep the equipment clean and intact. In some cases, we can also utilize acoustic bird repellers or visual bird repellent devices to repel birds and reduce their activities in substations.
